One-to-One Practical Support

• Supporting someone with an eating disorder can raise lots of difficult questions. You may be wondering how to respond at mealtimes, how to encourage recovery without causing conflict, where boundaries should sit, or what is genuinely helpful.

• These sessions focus on practical guidance, helping you feel more confident and better equipped in day-to-day situations.

• You’ll meet with your practitioner to talk through the challenges you are facing and explore approaches that may help in your own situation. There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Together, you will look at realistic ideas, useful strategies and what feels manageable for you and your loved one.

• There are up to 6 sessions available.

One-to-One Counselling

When someone you care about is struggling, it can bring worry, stress, frustration, helplessness and exhaustion.

You may spend so much time supporting your loved one that your own wellbeing gets pushed aside.

Our emotional support sessions give you space to talk openly with a counsellor about how things are affecting you.

One-to-one counselling can help you:

▪ talk through worries and emotions
▪ manage stress and overwhelm
▪ feel less alone
▪ explore relationships and boundaries
▪ better understand the impact on your own wellbeing
▪ build resilience while supporting someone else

We can also provide guidance around eating disorders and how to support recovery in a healthy and sustainable way.

You are not the cause of the eating disorder

Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions. Family members and carers are not to blame, and can play an important role in recovery.

How to access support

To access this service, complete our referral form and we’ll arrange an assessment conversation to understand your situation and explore what support would be most helpful. Together, we’ll identify the most suitable next step for you.

This service is free of charge and available to people registered with a GP in South Yorkshire. The person you are supporting does not need to be accessing SYEDA. Sessions are available face-to-face in Sheffield, by phone or online.

I can’t believe the difference that SYEDA made to my daughter’s life, I am so grateful to the service and how it has helped her.
