I have pioneered work with people with eating disorders in the Sheffield Mental Health Services since 1996 when Sheffield Eating Disorders Service (NHS provision) was first established. In the same year along with a young service user from Rotherham and Chrissie Taylor-Syeda's patron, a self help group was set up so that accessible services could be offered in the community. This self help group and an associated group for carers were the forerunners of Syeda, the regional charity we are familiar with today.
It is an absolute privilege to have been involved with Syeda's growth and development over 24 years and to see the enormous amount of change and development which has occurred.
Syeda has always remained true to its core principles and values of being a service user led organisation with the needs of carers, friends and family accommodated for as well as the individual with an eating disorder. It is inspiring to see the growth of a diverse staff Team.
